University of Denver Kayaking Club - Colorado River
White water kayaking is a dangerous sport... unless you are in a pool learning to kayak while away at college. Then it is a fun sport. Unless of course you are Whitney... then, even in a pool, kayaking is dangerous.
As a sophomore in college at the University of Denver Whitney went to learn how to kayak at a school sponsored event. Fortunately for Whitney In the same year Andrew was president of the University's kayaking club and found himself teaching a bunch of amateur kayakers how to roll their boats. While everyone else was finishing up for the night Whitney was still kayaking and accidently tipped her boat over. Her kayaking splash-skirt had gotten stuck on the inside of the boat trapping her upside-down under the water. As she struggled to reach the surface she kept swallowing water. This is how Andrew found her... flailing under the water. Fully clothed Andrew jumped into the pool to save Whitney.
There was no CPR or nighttime news story but as far as Whitney was concerned Andrew had saved her life. After weeks of teaching her how to safely and competently whitewater kayak Andrew asked Whitney out and they spent the next 7 years enjoying life together in the mountains of Colorado.
